Description

Regeneratively-grown vetiver grown on the North Shore of Maui. Beyond organic farming practices.

Why vetiver?

Vetiver helps control erosion, bio-remediate contaminated land, filter water, grow tons of living soil, and earthworms. It’s also used for shelter, clothing, weaving, bio char, as a mushroom growing medium, and the list goes on…

We use vetiver as a mineral miner to bring up minerals from deep in the subsoil where other plants would never touch it. We then use it as a green manure to build some of the richest living earth on the planet ? through the utilization of several different species of earthworms, fungi, and many other creatures.

We are able to build super soil with vetiver.

Vetiver helps to protect our reefs from erosion, while sequestering carbon and building soils.

Through the last 40 years of installing it all over the Hawaiian islands we now have it available to the public.

Varroa Mite Free: Maui is Varroa Mite Free, so when you buy our vetiver you won’t have to worry about spreading the Varroa mite that is infested all of the other islands and seriously wreaking havoc on Hawaii’s honeybees

When buying vetiver grass starts, what are you getting for the start you paying for?

If you know anything about vetiver grass you know that, if done the right way, they can produce hundreds of starts within a year.

Here’s an image we have of the vetiver “slips” most vetiver growers will sell you (left), versus the vetiver “starts” that we sell (right).

The small slips to the left – they will take much longer to establish, even up to six months longer! You will not see that kind of production out of your vetiver for at least a couple of years.

When you start off with the right type of rhizome – the one to the far right – the establishment rate is up to 5x faster because they are able to produce food through photosynthesis by having more leaf area to produce more photosynthesis, and cycle in carbohydrates to feed the roots and surrounding soil.

This is carbon sequestration and it’s finest!
